Cricket Helmet Size Guide
A helmet is sized on head circumference, and it is the one item in this guide where the tape measure is not the end of it. A helmet has to be tried on.
Take the measurement first
Head circumference
From just above the eyebrows to around the widest part of the head, in centimetres.
Take a tape around the head at its widest point — about a centimetre above the eyebrows and above the ears — and keep it level all the way round.
Between two sizes: Take the larger size and bring it down with the internal adjuster. A helmet that grips at the temples will not be worn — and a helmet that is not worn protects nobody.
Head circumference, and only that
A helmet size is a head circumference. It is not derived from your height, your age or your hat size — and we will not guess it from any of those, because a helmet that is a size out is not a helmet that fits loosely, it is a helmet that does not do its job.

A helmet must be tried on

A head circumference gets you the right size to try. It does not finish the job: a helmet must be tried on. It should sit level, grip evenly all the way round with the adjuster taken up, and not rock front to back or side to side when you shake your head. Come to us, or order and try it the day it arrives.
The three things to check with it on
- It sits level, with the peak roughly horizontal and the grille the right distance from your face — not resting on your nose.
- With the internal adjuster taken up, it grips evenly all the way round rather than pinching at the temples.
- It does not rock front to back or side to side when you shake your head.
Do not buy a helmet to grow into
We understand the instinct — a child grows, a helmet is not cheap. But a helmet only protects a head it fits. Slack above the faceguard is a gap, and a gap is where a ball gets through. A helmet that no longer fits is a helmet to replace, not one to get another season out of. Buy the size that fits today, and when it stops fitting, tell us and we will size the next one.
The rest of this guide will happily size you up a notch to grow into. This page will not, and that is deliberate.

Why this page has no size table
A helmet is required to carry the head circumference it fits, in centimetres, on the shell itself. Ours are being read off and checked before they go on this page. Until then: send us a head circumference in centimetres and we will tell you what fits, and we would rather you came and tried it on.
We are not filling this table in from a published chart. Both of the charts we compared are broken — one leaves every head between 54 and 56 cm matching nothing, the other has a junior size sitting entirely inside its small, so a 51 cm head matches two sizes and the page cannot say which. Inventing a band edge on a chart is bad. Inventing one on a helmet is not something we are going to do.

Before a child faces a hard ballAsk which ball the helmet is rated forA cricket helmet is tested against a particular ball, and the grade it passes is not the same thing as the size it is. It is the question most worth asking before a young player faces a hard ball, and it is the one almost no size chart mentions.
The rating goes by model and by size, not by size alone — so a junior-sized shell is not automatically a junior-ball shell, and a senior one is not automatically cleared for both. Read the rating on the model in front of you rather than inferring it from the name.

What to do with this
Whatever the make, check the rating against the ball the player will actually face — a school or club side using a hard adult ball needs a helmet cleared for one, and the difference is not visible from the outside.

How do I measure my head for a cricket helmet?
Run a tape around the head at its widest point, about a centimetre above the eyebrows and above the ears, and keep it level all the way round. Read it in centimetres. That circumference is what a helmet size means.
If I am between two cricket helmet sizes, do I go up or down?
Go up, then bring it down on the internal adjuster. The adjuster takes up slack; nothing makes a small shell bigger, and a helmet that grips at the temples gets taken off after two overs.
